Herman Cain spoke at the March meeting

north fulton republican women We were deeply honored to have popular radio talk-show host, Mr. Herman Cain, as our quest speaker for our March meeting. Mr. Cain spoke to a standing room-only crowed at the Fulton County Republican Headquarters, and gave a rousing speech which was interrupted several times by applause. He talked about the financial crises facing the nation, and the need for moving the party forward by getting the attention of the legislative branches and winning more Republican seats. He said that 52% of the population is "clueless." We need to be more involved and contact our legislators, send letters, flood them with emails, and make telephone calls. Mr Cain, we thank you for your inspiring speach!

The “Grand Old Purlers” and Izzy Dolls

north fulton republican women

Betty Voyles, VP of NFRWC was so inspired when she read an article that appeared in the newspaper about a group of women in West Cobb knitting dolls, called the “Izzy” which are sent to the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, that she wanted to know more about how to make them as a proposed club project.

The Izzy was named after Mark “Izzy” Isfeld, who was killed while clearing land mines in Croatia in 1994. His mother, Carol Isfeld, after seeing a photo that Mark had taken of a broken doll in a bombed-out rubble started making the dolls out of bright yarn and sending them to her son so that he could give them to the children. Betty and Michele Friedman introduced the dolls to the membership who embraced the idea and “The Grand Old Purlers” was formed. The members have already started kitting the dolls which are small and will fit into the pockets of the soldiers. NFRWC’s goal is to knit a box full which will be sent to the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church’s “Any Soldier Mission” and then on to the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan for the children.

If you would like to find out additional information or to assist with this project, please contact, Betty Voyles at: 770-393-3660 or Michele Friedman at: 678-566-2823.
